Rolling Over

There is no stopping this kid now! We have officially rolled over from back to belly over the weekend and James only continues to pick up the speed and consistency in which he does so. John and I were doing stuff around the condo Saturday afternoon. We had laid James down on his play mat for a few minutes. He was pretty quiet and content doing so as per usual. John walked into the living room to check on him and quickly hollered at me to come take a look. Little turkey was on his side about to roll over onto his belly!!!

After a few grunts and kicks he finally made it over!

Then, Sunday morning came and I had heard James jabbering to himself in his crib. When he finally let me know his discontent with still being in his crib, I went in to get him and this was the scene....

"Uh oh, I'm busted...."

Looking pretty proud of his accomplishment. :) Check out that chunky wrist roll!

We had a good chuckle yesterday as we both realized that his mobility is going to be the most tame now and we better enjoy these limited days of immobility as possible. Because from this point forward we will either be chasing James and/or his sibling for the next 18+ years. Let the fun begin, right?

Then last night when I put him to bed, he immediately flipped onto his side and I was kind of fighting and frustrated that he was stuck. I flipped him onto his belly, he found his thumb, and was quickly in slumberland. I kept going back into his room to check on him as knowing he was on his belly kind of had us nervous. So, I flipped him back onto his back for a peace of mind (I'm just not ready to accept it!!). I went in this morning to get him up for daycare and this was the scene. :) I mean, how cute is that little bum in the air!?

Ok James, please stop growing up so fast! I guess we will now be signing the "sleep on your belly" permission slip form at school today....

Night Moves

No doubt our little guy is getting more mobile and more ambitious to roll over consistently. He hasn't yet started rolling over in his crib. However, when I went to wake him up this morning, this was the scene....

When I put him to bed last night his head was directly under the mobile and he was flat on his back. I think we are very near rolling onto our belly during bedtime. Little turkey! :)

4 Months

My Sweet James....you turned 4 months old yesterday. How is that even possible?! I feel like we just brought you home from the hospital yesterday and now you are this chunky, vibrant 4 month old. Some things about you at this age....

  • You are such a smiley baby and you smile with your WHOLE body! Your smile lights up the room and anyone around you. It's so hard not to be happy around such a happy baby. :) All of your teachers at school comment on how much you smile every day.
  • You continue to be a good sleeper and for that we thank you! You rarely wake during the night to eat and are typically ready for bed anywhere between 7-8 in the evening. It does make me sad that by the time we get home from daycare, bathe, and eat that you are near bedtime and our time together while you're awake is limited for the day.
  • I believe you're in the early stages of teething. You drool a lot and are constantly chewing on your thumb, fingers, or a toy. I'm sure this is only the beginning....
  • You roll over from belly to back and are trying so hard to roll from your back to your belly. Apparently you've done back to belly at daycare, but I have yet to witness it. You try so hard but seem to always get stuck on your side. Once you figure out how to get your arm out of the way you will be rolling all over the place.
  • You are still a passionate eater. You continue to nurse like a champ and take bottles like a champ. You consistently want 6oz at a time with a bottle and will occasionally surprise me when you want 7-8 (sheesh, kid!). Dr. D did tell us over the weekend that it's not unlikely that you'll start accepting 8 oz bottles. How is mommy ever going to keep up!?
  • You're in a solid 6 month clothing size and I have no doubt you will soon be approaching 9 month sizes. In fact, I bought a few 9 month sleepers over the weekend as some of your 6 month sizes are starting to be a little snug. This makes mommy so sad!
  • You are a chatty guy. You always have a lot to tell mommy and daddy in the mornings and you will definitely let us know when you are tired or hungry. When you're tired you rub your eyes so hard with your fists. It's so hard not to think of how adorable you look doing it.
  • You are so alert and are really starting to notice objects around you. In fact, last week I noticed that you are really into grabbing anything that I have in my hand. You're constantly checking things out.
What can we say? ....life with you just keeps getting better and better!!! You are the joy to our everyday and we look forward to watching you grow and develop in the days to come.

We love you!

4 Month Well Check

James had his 4 month well child check last Saturday and it turned out to be a bust! Rather than leaving with a clean bill of health and 4 month shots, we left with a baby that was coughing, wheezing, traumitization from being deep suctioned, and we are now proud owners of a nebulizer machine with albuterol (ugh!). We've still been battling the cough off and on. It seemed to come on stronger last Wednesday. I took him in to have his ears looked at but, all was well. His wheezing wasn't too great Friday night, but we watched him and waited until his appointment with his doctor Saturday morning. We've been doing albuterol treatments as needed for his poor little cough and wheezing. He thankfully seems to be doing better overall. We are still doing the treatments, mostly in the morning and late afternoon are when the wheezing seems to return. Through all of this the kid is still happy as a clam! He has been a little more clingy than usual, but I'm perfectly fine with the extra snuggles. :)

So, since we didn't get shots on Saturday we now have an appointment to return this Friday to follow-up on the cough/wheezing and to get his 4 month shots if he has a clean bill of health. Poor kid! The funny thing about all of this.... I had purposely scheduled his 4 month appointment on a Saturday so John could attend and participate in the drama of the shots this time (if you recall, he missed out on the 2 month shot visit because he was traveling for work). He'll be at work on Friday so he'll miss the fun yet again. Guess the joke is on mommy!!

We pray that James continues to feel better. So now, for the growth stats on our little (or not so little) man....

  • Height: 24.5 inches
  • Weight: 14 lbs 12 oz
  • Head circumference: 16.5 inches

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!

Today was James' first Valentine's Day! And I think it's safe he was the cutest one around. He definitely kept turning this momma's heart to mush with all of his smiles and kisses.

On the Move

Yes, James is starting to get more mobile but, we just bought a house and will be moving very soon! As most know, we have been legging it out in the condo for a while now. The condo has been perfect for us for many years but, we are officially at the point of overflow. We had hoped to make the move before James was born but, it just didn't happen. John and I have been looking at homes most weekends for the last 6 weeks and are pleased to report we finally found our forever home! Assuming all goes well with inspections and contracts, we will be relocating to a cozy neighborhood in Brookside. Brookside is a great area for young families located just south of the Plaza in Kansas City. It's about 10 minutes south of where we currently live, 6 minutes from James' daycare, 15 minutes from both of our offices, and is just within a few blocks from shops and restaurants.

We had the big debate on do we move to Kansas or stay in Missouri. We wanted to move somewhere that was relatively close to both of our jobs and also had similar things to offer as downtown (ie: walking distance to shops, restaurants, and parks). We are also just a few blocks from a well known running trail so we are very excited about that!

We are so excited and nervous for this new journey. It will bring a lot of changes financially but will also provide us more space as our family grows. To us, the home is perfect and is exactly what we had been envisioning all along. :)

The Sickness Continues...

Alright, daycare germs....I surrender. You have seriously made our entire household miserable for the last 3 weeks. First it was RSV. Then hand, foot, and mouth. Now, we're back to the nasty cough. What gives?!? To make matters even more fun, mommy here also got hand, foot, and mouth. I wasn't aware you could get hand, foot, and mouth as an adult! Let me tell you, that was quite a miserable experience. I'll spare you all of the details but will share that it resulted in a horrible hand rash, sore throat, feet rash, and a 911 call for me over the weekend!

We all seemed to be on the mend earlier this week until I got a call from daycare yesterday saying J was running a low grade fever, his cough was getting worse, and he just wasn't sleeping. I had worried it could be his ears as John and I had caught him playing with his left ear over the weekend, but weren't sure if they were hurting or if he had just "discovered" them. He checked out ok at the doctor last night. A little fluid on the left ear but nothing to treat at this point. We're just supposed to keep an eye on the cough and bring him back in for suctioning if he needs it. James' 4 month well child check is this Saturday, so we're hoping he'll still be ok to get his shots.

I think it's safe to say we are MORE than ready for Spring and for these germs to go away!
